SABC Serves Up a Winner! MasterChef SA Scoops Top Award

SABC is cooking with gas! Their bold move to bring the globally acclaimed MasterChef South Africa to S3 (formerly SABC3) has paid off big time. The proof is in the pudding – or rather, the prestigious South Africa Restaurant Awards (SARA)!

Based on a whopping 95,000 public votes, MasterChef South Africa Season 5 has been crowned "The Best Cooking Show" at this year's SARAs. Talk about a recipe for success!

For the first time, this Guinness World Record-holding culinary phenomenon became accessible to all South Africans when it landed on SABC. And judging by the overwhelming support, viewers devoured every minute!

SABC's Group Executive for Video Entertainment, Lala Tuku, expressed her excitement at the show's launch about bringing this global hit to a wider audience. Homebrew Films, the show's renowned producers, delivered on their promise to showcase the vibrant tapestry of South African home cooks and cuisine.

Adding to the flavour of the win, MasterChef South Africa Season 5 winner Bridget Mangwandi and runner-up Nabila Shamshum proudly accepted the award. Bridget also made history as the youngest winner and the first black female to take home the coveted MasterChef South Africa title!

But the accolades didn't stop there for S3! Their popular morning show, Expresso, also snagged an award for their cooking segment, Culinary Hotline, in SARA's newly introduced TV category.

What makes this win even sweeter is that SARA is entirely driven by public votes, making it a true reflection of what South African food lovers are passionate about. As part of a prestigious global network, SARA celebrates the rich and diverse culinary landscape of all nine provinces.
